Article 18: Preparation For A New Millennium

The media is talking about it. Your co-workers are talking about it. The churches are talking about it. Your friends are talking about it. The information about this computer "oversight" is convincing, compelling, and sometimes overwhelming. Much of the information about Y2K is too technical and difficult to read, and yet, very little explains how you and your family can prepare.

  • Does the Y2K Bug exist? Yes
  • Can it be fixed? Yes
  • Will all computers be fixed in time?
  • No
  • Does anyone really know what the outcome will be? No
  • Will the outcome be negative or positive? Both!
  • Will we survive it? Yes
  • Do you have to put all your money into something that doesn't rely or involve computers? No

We've all heard the reports about the terrible things that are going to happen after January 1 2000. Gasoline shortages, food shortages, power shortages are just a few of these reports.

Put these fears and doubts aside, focus on the moment, and prepare for the future by making intelligent decisions in the present.

What should you do to prepare for the year 2000?

A key for solving your possible Y2K problems would be to stock up on supplies, but don't over do it. Another key is do not remove your money from the banks. If the economy crashes, that money will be nearly useless. Furthermore, withdrawing large amounts of money from banks could actually help cause economic failure.

Encourage people to look forward to the year 2000.

It makes complete sense to prepare for the possible problems that the Y2K bug may cause. However, Y2K solutions, not problems, are what we should all be focusing on. Encourage others to be mentally prepared with a positive outlook.

It's always important to know who to rely on for help, especially this Holiday Season. Friends, family, and churches are just a few examples. Also, remember to help others when you can. With everyone working together Y2K solutions can be accomplished.
